Roulette History
Roulette is a game born and developed in France during the 17th century. The invention of the roulette wheel is attributed to Blaise Pascal. He had special interest in the science of probabilities and perpetual engines. His two main interests combined to form the roulette wheel. The early forms of roulette rules resembled little to the roulette wheel we can see nowadays at live or online casinos, but the beginning may be attributed to Pascal.
Soon after the invention of the roulette wheel, the game gained popularity among the rich and the aristocrats of France. This was due to the favorable house edge of the game, which was soon fixed by Francois and Louis Blanc. The Blanc family have an important role in roulette history.
The two engineered a roulette wheel with a Zero slot in 1842. The introduction of the single Zero slot managed to pull the house edge higher without harming the game's popularity. At the time gambling were forbidden in France and so the Blancs presented their roulette wheel, which is also known to many as the European roulette, at Hamburg in Germany. There the Blancs were able to perfect the game and soon an invitation from Charles the Third, Price of Monaco.
Francois Blanc and Camille, his son, went to Monaco and established a luxuries gambling house where European roulette was presented for the noblemen of France. This lay the foundations to Monte Carlo, the notorious gambling capital of France nowadays.
It is said that Blanc bargained with the devil for the esoteric secrets of roulette. This legend is based upon the fact that you get 666, the "number of the beast", when you combine together all the numbers of the roulette wheel. This legend is one out of many myths surrounding roulette history (in fact one might say that all roulette history is one big myth). From that time forward on roulette history continues across the sea, in the U.S.
Roulette games reached the U.S in the beginning of the 18th century. There the game was modified by American casinos and another Zero slot was fixed into the roulette wheel. This was made to increase the house edge of the game and today this type is referred to as American roulette, which can be easily found at live or online casinos.
Along the 19th and 20th centuries roulette gained more and more popularity and the roulette history became a common talk among gamblers, along with other aspects of this game.

Roulette Rules
Roulette consists of a wheel with 38 numbers, these include the numbers 1-36, 0, and 00. After all the bets have been established the wheel is spun and a ball is placed on the outer edge of the wheel. The ball will then drop into one of the numbered pockets once the wheel slows down. The numbers on the wheel alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers and alternate between black and red. The two zeros are green in color and are placed at opposite ends of the wheel. The object of the game is to determine which number or color the ball with ultimately land on.
The table layout is arranged so that the 36 numbers are arranged in 3 columns of 12 numbers each. The numbers are in sequence, and can be either red or black, depending on the number. There are two types of roulette bets: inside bets and outside bets. The 6 inside bets: straight bet, split bet, street bet, corner bet, five number bet, and a line bet. There are three basic outside bets: even-money, column, and dozen bets. You can place as many different types of bets at any time. There are no limits to the number of wagers placed on each spin.
There is a winning number display at the top right of your screen to help you find the last winning numbers. The common perception is that if a number has not been shown as winning in a long time, it could be time to put a stake on that number!
The most important thing you should know is how the table minimum works. If you are playing at a table with a $5 minimum, you are required to place $5 on each of your outside bets, and/or a total of at least $5 on your inside bets (inside and outside bets are explained in a second). So if you play black/red, odd/even or high/low, you must place the table minimum for each and every bet. On the other hand, you could place 5 $1 bets on 5 completely different inside bets (specific numbers or combinations of numbers).
Before you get confused, standard North American roulette rules have the table use different chips than other table games at the casino. Each player is assigned a different color of chip, letting the dealer differentiate bets and match them to the right players. These chips are worthless at the other tables in the casino, so don't bother trying to stack them up under your blackjack chips or anything silly like that. The roulette dealer will exchange your game chips for regular chips when you are finished playing.
You usually have to give some indication to the dealer as to what value of chip denomination you want to be provided with. For a $5 minimum table, you will usually have a minimum value of $1 on roulette chips. Judge this based on your average bet and whether or not you like to split things up a lot. Again, so you don't get confused, when you get your roulette chips they will not be marked with a denomination, you choose it, and all of the chips will reflect that worth (the dealer keeps track of this by associating the amount and color with a 'lammer').
Roulette doesn't move at a quick pace, it's for a more relaxed crowd than you're likely to find at the craps table. Roulette rules kind of necessitate this sluggishness, as making all of the bets is what slows things down. When you're at the point that you want to place your bet, don't be concerned about someone else having already taken your bet, chips can share bets thanks to the colors.
Roulette rules give you lots of time to set your bet, and can even keep doing so after the wheel has been spun, just don't try it after the dealer waves his hands over the table (if there are any new players the dealer will most likely say 'no more bets' out-loud too). Once the ball has found its pocket, the dealer will call out the winning number and place a clear marker on that number's spot on the table layout. The dealer then sweeps the table clean and the winner is paid. Wait until the dealer says 'place your bets' before putting any chips down for the next spin.
